Maria Dutko (Maria Zubiuk) was born to Mikola and Hanna Zubiuk in 1958 in a small village called Iltsi near Verchovina in the Ivano-Frankivsk (Ivano-Frankovsk) region of Ukraine. She grew up together with her brothers Yaroslav, Ivan and Michaelo.

She worked in a large state owned chain of restaurants as a gastronomic technical engineer, second in charge of over 150 workers.

She was awarded the accolade of "Hostess of the Year" in 1990 by "Soviet Woman" magazine.

In later years she became a journalist, working in Lviv and then in Kiev, reporting on the disaster in Chernobyl.

She later became a political journalist after completing further studies in London under the tutelage of Dr. Festun (now deceased).

She worked in London for nearly 4 years as sub-editor and journalist on the weekly newspaper "Ukrainian Thought" where her outspokenness and criticism of the injustices still prevalent in the Ukrainian "system" instilled a fear of being interviewed by her in many people in prominent positions.

A highly accomplished Chef and gastronome, her book on the History of Ukrainian Cookery is presented here and contains many recipes that would have perished were it not for her persistence throughout the many years of research that went into gathering them, mainly through interviews she held with women throughout Ukraine.

Most recently she helped Marian Hajwa record his memoirs, which contain a history of Ukrainian emigration into the UK after WWII.

A highly talented writer and poet, she presents a series of her poems here which are shortly to be published under the title of "Reflections of my Soul".

Unfortunately, much would be lost in translation so her writings are presented here in the Ukrainian language only.
